Can you solve it?
Solve for x: 2x+1 = 32
2x+1 = 32 = 25 ⇒ x + 1 = 5 ⇒ x = 4
Because the bases are equal, the exponents must be equal. Writing 32 as a power of 2 turns an exponential equation into a simple linear one — that is the power of understanding structure.
